SE7 Night Train Da Nang --> Nha Trang (how to book)

Hi, I've seen there's many people posting about how to book sleeper trains in Vietnam, seems like there's not that much English website with information aside from seat61.com (that only shows schedules, no possibility to make reservations).

I want to take the overnight train (soft sleeper) from Da Nang to Nha Trang on Thur, Nov 22nd, leaving around 10PM and arriving the next morning.

I have been speaking with a local travel agent in Vietnam, and she says there's no soft sleepers available anymore, only soft seats. She's suggesting the bus as an alternative.

Call me paranoid, but I find it a little hard to believe that 10 days in advance, all beds are booked on a Thur night train from Da Nang to Nha Trang (and I don't think this is high season). Is there any other way I can check availabilities? I thought maybe the agent wants to sell me a bus ticket because she has a deal with the bus company...

I could suggest she books the soft seat on the train though, and then try to check if any beds became available prior to departure...

Also has anyone got experience in doing an overnight trip on the soft seat? It looks like the seats decline for which it's kind of similar of sleeping on a plane which is not a problem for me.

Hi Tim,

you instinct could be just right. Might be that she is trying to sell you a ticket from a connected bus company. Could be that all tickets are sold out.

You did not mention if you are in Vietnam right now or not. If yes, jst go to the trainstation, if no, check another agent.

4 years ago I used a travel agent to book a ticket a month ahead. I had to pay alot of money for that service, compared to the ticket price, but in my situation it was worth the money. The ticket was sent to my hotel and when I arrived in HCMC it was already placed at the reception. So just ask another agent.

If you are in Ha Noi you could go to the railway station and get all the tickets you need in one go. I bought a bundle of them in July: Ha Noi - Ninh Binh - Dong Hoi - Hue - Da Nang - Nha Trang.
Must add that these were ordinary soft seats but I feel, like #1 that some tickets may be being held back.

Hi Tim,
Have a look at Vietnam Railways booking site - https://www.vietnamrailways.com/ It is showing soft berths available for the SE7 Da Nang to Nha Trang on the evening you are wanting. Soft berths for the earlier SE5 are unavailable so it could be that your travel agent is getting the 2 confused. More likely she is trying to get you on a bus.
Soft seat is ok as well - its a $10 saving for a 9 hour journey - your call.

When we went from Danang to Nha Trang, we couldnt get sleepers for love or money so had no option but to travel soft seat. We took the early morning train and they provided meals and drink (noodles and water) but better than nothing..

Hi guy!
I think you should go to Danang train station to book ticket directly. It's located at 202 Hai Phong Street. Maybe, this is high seasons because this time is the end of year so many Vietnamese people book ticket to go home for Tet.

OP Nha Trang had rain yesterday afternoon and this morning. Central city streets were flooded this morning-water was knee deep in many of the streets. If we get a few days rain we experience a flood. November is rainy season. Welcome to Nha Trang!

Nha Trang is part of Khanh Hoa which just happens to be the tout's name above. Brace yourselves for a lot of local provincal touting.
