Family trip to Antigua and Atitlan in February
Hello everyone!Though I have been to Guatemala several times, I have never thought of the best way to go there with children!
My whole family is going in february: 7 adults and 4 kids; 6, 5 and two small 1,5 year! Since I have been there before I want to make the trip for my family as wonderful as possible, but I also understand that we can not only walk the streets up and down and sit for hours in cafes as I used to do...The kids would go crazy, so I am trying to think of places where we can all go together and everyone can have a nice time. We have rented a house both in Antigua and close to Panajachel, so that is ok, both with pools.
So, the things I am sure will be nice are:
Finca Filadelfia
The Macadamia farm
La Reunion Golf-Resort
The new restaurant of Hotel Santo Domingo up in the mountain, can`t remember the name..
Some of my family members are very picky concerning hygiene, so that is important as well. Do you now of other good places? And also around the lake?
I am also thinking that we should rent a shuttle from the airport to Antigua, from Antigua to Pana etc But do you know of any companies that have childseats (which is veeery important in our country)?
And last; especially my parents are crazy for sun! February is one of the best months to stay in Antigua and at the lake, right?
Thanks in advance!!!!

I'd contact some agencies, such as Adrenalena Tours and Rainbow Travel, to schedule a private shuttle both from the airport, and from Antigua to Pana. You can ask if child seats are available. I've never seen a child seat in Guatemala.A wonderful activity in Antigua for adults and kids alike is hanging out in the central park. You may want to buy a couple of papoos wraps for the two little ones and have the Mayan ladies show you how to do it. That or take those carrier things. Then you can do things everyone else enjoys while the little ones ride or sleep. A tour of the grounds of Hotel Posada Santo Domingo is worthwhile for all. We took a 1 and a 2 year old there, worked well. Maybe the older kids and some of the adults can climb volcan Pacaya. That would be super exciting for the kids, climbing a volcano. Ride a chicken bus somewhere, maybe to the nearby weaving village market day. About as colorful as it gets.
There's a nature preserve at Pana, monkeys, zip lines, whatever. Maybe ride the big ferry boat from Pana to Santiago & back. Maybe tuk-tuk the mob to see Maximon while in Santiago. Spend a morning one of the two main market days at the Solola market a 10-minute bus ride from Pana. Our 2 year old enjoyed that. Check out the live animal section. May want to leave the hygiene pickies at home, the public toilets may not be up to their standards.
You will have lots of sunshine in February. Dry season, may not see any rain. At most, very little.
Buen viaje!

Thanks a lot!! Really looking forward to leaving the snow for some sunshine and frijoles! Will contact the travel-agencies as well, I remember Rainbow from before. If they don`t have child seats, maybe it`s possible to buy it somewhere. Maybe not in Antigua, but I guess in Guatemala City!
Thanks again - and let me know if anyone has other ideas as well!!!
Feliz dia!

Even if you should find some infant car seats, I'm not sure you would be able to attach them in the shuttle vans. I don't know if there are seatbelts in the vans for attachment. So that would be something else to ask the agencies. And feel free to ask agencies you talk with if they know of some agency with shuttles that can help.Buen viaje!
