Overland Cabo to Guadalajara?

I might be heading to Cabo San Lucas in 2 days on a last minute trip from the yucatan. I was planning on crossing into
Belize via Chetumal and would like to still do this except now from Cabo. I'd be willing to spend up to a week on this route. It looks like bus from Guadalajara to MC then train to Chetumal would be an intersting way. But what is the best bus route to get from Cabo to Guadalajara? I enjoy small towns, great street food, beaches and scenary. Also are there any particular towns or cities I should avoid or use extra caution? Any help is greatly appreciated!

" But what is the best bus route to get from Cabo to Guadalajara?
  • Bus from Cabo to La Paz
  • Ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan across the Sea of Cortes or Gulf of California
  • Another bus from Mazatlan to Mexico City ('Mexico Norte') via Guadalajara (along Hwy 15/15D).
  • Another bus to Chetumal from Mexico City ('Mexico Norte' or 'Mexico TAPO'). If this site doesn't return the schedule for bus from Mexico City to Chetumal you'll have to break the trip from Mexico City to Villahermosa to Palenque (Escarcega or Campeche) to Chetumal.

Look on the maps to see where the places you mentioned are at and how far you're going.

-or- Fly to Guadalajara (GDL) from Cabo (SJD) or fly from Cabo to Cancun (via Mexico City) and another bus from Cancun to Chetumal. Or Fly from Cabo (could be more expensive than going to Cancun) to Chetumal and you're there. Flying is much more economical over long distances and cost the same or even cheaper than buses on the ground.

Note that the words "bus" in the above are linked to different bus companies as no one bus company serves everywhere in Mexico like they do in the USA. The words "fly" are also linked to two different airlines. Look at their respective websites to see the duration of the ride recorrido, fares (tarifas) and schedules (horarios) and judge for yourself.

"then train to Chetumal would be an interesting way." There are no train services from Mexico City to Chetumal (or to anywhere in that direction). Nearest train route from Mazatlan is from Los Mochis up to Chihuahua through the Copper Canyon. From Guadalajara there's a weekend tourist train to to Amatitan (and back), operating as a tour of the tequila distilleries (for US$100) than as a basic form of transportation. That's about what's available for train travel in Mexico.

I think you are hopelessly confused. Cabo to Guadalajara "overland" is approximately 43 hours of non-stop driving (and a lot longer by public transport). You can get the ferry but that leg alone is 14 hours. Do you really mean that you are "heading to Cabo San Lucas......FROM the Yucatan?" They are thousands of miles apart and if you're covering those sort of distances in a short time then you will have to fly.

Decided to go for it, thanks for the tips! I'm flying to Cabo from Cancun. I will take the ferry to avoid the border area, then make my way by bus to Chetumal, stopping at a few places along the way.

    Um.

The logic of the routing is inexplicable.

What exactly is wrong with my proposed route? Im now in Cabo and want to cross into Belize through Chetumal without flying. So I plan on taking Anyone´s advice and ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan, then bus to Chetumal spending a few nights in MC, Villahermosa and Campeche,

#5: Because you say you have up to a week for your route but you are going to require at least 60 hours of travel time. That would be too much for most people.
