USA transfer

Hi

I am travelling to Costa Rica on 29th of December 2012. We will be transferring at Houston on the way there and New York on the way back. Does anyone know if I need an US visa even though we are just transferring?

4-5 years ago I travelled to Las Vegas and had a nightmare getting a visa because I have a conviction of possession of a class a
substance. I was accepted for a visa but it took weeks.

Do u think I need or get a visa if so, do u think I would get one in time.

You need a visa. It will take some time and cost some money. No one here has any idea how long it will take, because no one knows where you live, and you didn't bother to tell us.

Start with the FAQ at the top of the USA forum.

As a UK passport holder you now need to apply (and pay) for an ESTA which is an online version of the old Visa Waiver. I have included the link below.
The good thing is that this process will immediately tell you if you do not qualify for any reason i.e. your previous record. The bad thing is that if you do not qualify then you will have to apply for a full Visa even just for transit. Its a shocker....
