Just re the border crossing you enquired about you can get info here: http://www.canbypublications.com/cambodia/overland.htm#Hatien
If you have enough time you may want to stop over at Phu Quoc on the way through as its quite convenient from Ha Tien. I presume your Vietnam visa allows for multiple entry.
@ Hankor. Nice photos on that web site.

thanks for the link! will check that out.

Yes, I will arrange for a multiple entry visa since I enter Vietnam 2 times. Also thank you for the Phu Quoc suggestions, not too sure but I will check this will fit into my planning.

But maybe I choose something between the border and Saigon then, looking for a chilled place...

Hi again - if you haven't already gotten your visa, I just read this in a Travelfish newsletter (www.travelfish.org - a great site for all things SE Asia):

Vietnam: Visa fees hiked
Under a rule effective January 1, 2013, the fee for applying for a single-entry Vietnamese visa will rise from US$25 to $45, Tuoi Tre News reports.

+Updated : Sat, November 10, 2012,2:41 PM (GMT+0700)+

Foreigners wishing to apply for visa to enter Vietnam will be charged with higher fees as of the beginning of next year, according to a new regulation issued by the Ministry of Finance.

Under the rule that takes effect on January 1, 2013, the fee for applying a single-entry visa will be increased from US$25 to $45, applicable to foreigners and those of Vietnamese origins holding foreign passports.

The rate for multi-entry visa will also be hiked to $65 for a period of less than one month, $95 for less than six months, and finally, $135 for a period of above six months. The current charges for the latter two periods are $50 and $100.

nice.... I have found this page where I can get this visa invitation which eligables me for receiving a visa once I land in HCMC.

That is actually cheaper than sending my passport to the embassy and pay for the return fee. ;)

However, I was already prepared for quite heavy fees - but where can you nowadays say "ohhh - i need to arrange for my visa!"? haha - so I take it as part of the fun :)
