I have read the information from the embassy that the security situation in the Philippines is very bad and is recommended not to visit many areas and the rest do with caution.
Travellers that have been or are in the Philippines the situation is so bad?
thanks!
There is moderate crime risk in major cities, especially in red light districts or dodgy neighborhoods at night. Requires about the same caution level as most other major cities.
The typical travel routes involve no unusual risk and you need nothing beyond the normal common sense caution that applies anywhere.
But seriously the only safety issue concerns the far South Eastern reaches of Mindanao and most sane people dont go there..
SH I just left Bohol, been there twice and never even heard of problems let alone encountered them. In fact I have never had a major problem in all my time in any of those islands. Maybe I am just lucky. There again it perhaps helps to be the meanest, nasty , evil so and so on the islands.
Seriously Bohol is, for me, one of the nicer places I have been to in the Phills. In fact going back there in Feb/Mar. Just hope I can stay on the bike this time.
from Zamboanga to Cotabato to General santos to Mati.
the only places un safe are the islands south of Zamboanga city and Lanao del sur.
and to go to them two places you would have to go out of your way.
there are vans going from Pagadian to Cotabato via lanao del sur.
but you can go via Cagayan de oro.
the only place I have not been is Marawi 50 kms south of iligan.

There are a few really dangerous places in the far south and west. You'd have to work at it to get to them, and there's no reason you'd want to go there unless you're looking for trouble. There is moderate crime risk in major cities, especially in red light districts or dodgy neighborhoods at night. Requires about the same caution level as most other major cities.

Sorry, should read far South Western reaches of Mindanao..6
Ive been to Mindanao 4 times now, never felt unsafe. Ive never traveled south of Davao but everywhere else Ive been in Mindanao the people have been nothing but friendly and gracious.7
Agree, people in both Surigao and Siargao are incredibly friendly and helpful..10
