weedy seadragons

hello fellowtravelers,

I'm going on a roadtrip this week from Brisbane to Melbourne for 3 weeks. Does anybody know where would be a good spot to see a weedy seadragon while snorkling?

Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands,

Kiekie

There are several locations around Adelaide where Leafy Seadragons are known to be, but to see them while snorkelling would be unusual, I reckon.

Cheers,
Peter

According to various websites, they are found everywhere from Port Stephens (about 100klms north of Sydney) all the way round the south coast to Geraldton in WA.
HOWEVER! I have done a lot of snorkelling along the south Coast, especially Jervis bay where there is very clear water and apparently an abundance of weedy sea dragons and never seen one. I've seen rays, wobegongs, scores of types of fish, even a very large octopus, but never a weedy sea dragon. Friends who are divers have seen them, but not snorkellers.

Yes, very chancy at anytime/where but diving from the surface?......hard to do.
Nonetheless, enjoy as many swims as possible and who knows?
There's always heaps else of interest.
Good luck.....but i've never seen a weedy either!
