I've got a layover in Italy on my way to Spain. Do I get stamped in in Italy or Spain?

Italy, if you get stamped at all (in many places you're passport is swiped nowadays) and assuming you arrive in Italy from a non-Schengen country.

What do they swipe you for? I heard about something called the SIS2 which is a database for persons of interest (criminals, etc). If you are on the list, your file comes up on the computer.

I found this....

http://www.indiastudychannel.com/resources/149380-Learn-Schengen-visa-details-minutes-only.aspx

It claims just 10 minutes is needed. I was lost after 20 and still cheesed after 40.... Still am ! !

Yes, Italy.

And if you're flying home on the same route, your passport will get checked in Italy.

Wow. And to think my passport is always stamped and swiped while entering/exiting my own country...

What do you mean exactly by layover?
I mean, if you have to change planes in Italy and you come from a non-Schengen country, then in Italy for sure but if you don't have to change planes and continue on the same flight to Spain... I wouldn't be so sure.
