Ticket to leave the country before landing

Hi there,

Long story short, me and a friend is landing in Mexico in january planning to head south to Panama. The problem is that we need a ticket out of Mexico before we take off. I've been checking the bus companies that should have the cheapest ticktes but although i can't find anyone that offers online reservation, at least not anyone that's traveling out from Mexico. I've been scaning this forum for a long time but can't find any answers to the question, ergo the new thread

An alternative could be to buy a flight ticket to Cuba and just don't go but it's still a lot of money we're talking about. Hope someone out there can help. Thanks in advance

Hi stansfield!

Welcome to TT!

i can't find anyone that offers online reservation, at least not anyone that's traveling out from Mexico.

Did you try to book it with ADO? They have buses from Cancún to Belize. The offer online reservation. I don't know if they accept foreign credit cards though but you can give it a try.

Hi, thank you for your answer! i really appreciate it.

I tried ADO, according to the website they offer bus trip from Cancun to Belize but i'm not able to find those trips

"NO EXISTEN CORRIDAS DE SALIDA DISPONIBLES...." is the only answer i get no matter time or date

That ADO route from Cancun to BC has been operating for about a year, but ADO hasn't put the schedule on the website. If you could book it in advance, make the starting point Tulum and the final destination Corozal -- it should be a bit cheaper. It's odd that the reverse trip is listed.

An alternative might be the water taxi from Chetumal to San Pedro, Belize. Two companies offer that services -- both have websites where you can see schedules, fares & contact details. I don't know about reserving on line.
a) San Pedro Water Jets International:

b) San Pedro – Belize Express:

Select "noche" in "horarios". I'm seeing buses for this week and for next week and for next month but not for 2013. When are you traveling?

Hi,

Tulum to Corozal would be optimal since it's in Tulum we're planning to stay, maybe it's gonna be possible to pre book closer to january since it's not working now. Otherwise we might consider the water taxi. Thank you so much for your help

I got that backwards -- it's the BC to Cancun route that isn't listed.

The Cancun to BC schedule is there but the ADO site doesn't allow you to see schedules further ahead than about 4 weeks. I've never tried to book online.

Hi, we're going around 5th of january, so it's possible that you simply can't find any routes for next year now. Although i'm glad to know that they at least operate the route so i'll probably just have to wait and see. Many thanks

If you go to the website of San Pedro Water Jets Express, they claim to be an agent of ADO. Maybe you can buy a ticket online through them?

If you can't get a bus ticket, you can look for a refundable air ticket (perhaps some taxes aren't refund though) but read carefully the terms and conditions of the relevant airline and ticket fare in order to know when (i.e.: in what cases/conditions) they'll refund your money, how they'll refund it and how much money they'll refund (i.e.: look for un-refundable taxes, fees to get the refund...). Look also for online reviews about it in order to know how easy/difficult is to get your money back with whatever airlines you have that option.

Which airline are you flying in on? And what is your nationality?

Getting into Mexico on a one-way ticket is not that unusual and not particularly difficult in my experience..I've done it several times without problems.

I was going to ask, what Passport do you hold? It usually is not a problem for most North Americans and many EU folks to fly oneway into MX. Of course it is the airline that enforces the "Onward Travel" requirements of a given country. Did you confirm this on the MX Branch?

This is a good site to check whats needed Visa and Onward Travel wise...

american refunded, imediately, the really expensive ticket i had to show spirit to prove onward travel; this was almost two years ago, but as others here have said its unlikely that they have lightened up. refundable ticket back , purchased with credit card, cancelled within hours.
