Hostel in Copacabana - double room with ensuite (during Carnival)

Hi all,

My wife and I (in our 20's) are going to be in Rio from the 8th Feb to 16th Feb for Carnival.

I'm trying to find a hostel (clean, friendly, good location) in the Copacabana area for the duration above. We're looking for a hostel which has a double room with private ensuite, as my wife isn't too keen on sharing.

We don't mind noise and partying, but we do want some level of cleanliness. I've stayed in hostels before so know what to expect, but an hoping we can find something that is clean.

Does anyone have any recommendations from past experience? I'm also checking on Tripadvisor but do get lots of mixed reviews on places.

Thanks,
Nij

What's your budget? Given the late date now, would you consider other areas? If so, which?

Hi Bubba,

budget is upto £100 per night for the 2 of us. I would also consider Ipanema.

I've set the budget higher as most hostels are asking for a 7 day minimum booking (which is fine) but prices are also considerably higher during the carnival week

There are many such places, Residencial Sucre, for instance. In normal times (I don't know about the Carnaval) it's very cheap.

Sorry if I was not clear, I was referring to Copacabana in Rio, Brazil. Not the one in Bolivia.

Thanks though Willem

£100 per night for the 2 of you isn't much for a private room in carnival season. It will be very hard, if not impossible, to find!

Two of the cheapest hostel dorm beds should total around R$286/night (in a multi-night package). You are proposing R$325/night, i.e. only R$40/12GBP more, for a private ensuite room? Unrealistic.

You are looking at an average of about seventy quid per person, per night to stay in a shared dormitory with anywhere from four to eight other people. Adjust your budget because you won't be staying in a private room in Zona Sul for £50 per person over carnaval.

Bamboo rio in Copa had private rooms over Carnival when I checked a week ago. Not as cheap as 100 a night but pretty reasonable considering the time. I would try contacting them

Make sure that you speak directly to the accomodation regarding price and reservations. I've seen reports from previous years of people who booked through a booking site at what looked like a "good" price, only to discover that it wasn't the Carnaval price and the accomodation wouldn't honor the reservation, leaving them SOOLuck atthe last minute at peak capacity time.
