March/April/May ideasHi everyone
I'm back for a bit more advice as my previous posts have had some really useful feedback!
I'm in the great position of being able to take 4 months (Feb-May) off work next year. My plans are are still to visit Italy, but from there I am struggling to pin down an itinerary. I have a few questions where I'd really appreciate any thoughts:
- cost effective-wise, would you suggest a longer trip or a number of short trips from my UK base?
- Israel is on my wish list - is there a sensible itinerary from Italy to Israel or should I return to the UK in between?
- what routes would work for the time of year? Greece/Egypt/Serbia/Poland?!
I'm interested in history, culture, natural wonders. My budget is £7,000 for 4 months.
Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

1Rome to Tel Aviv.
One thing you should bear in mind is the Passover holiday, which in 2013 is from March 25 to April 1. Unless you have a pressing reason to be in Israel then, you should avoid it. It causes a tremendous amount of disruption, and prices for accommodation will skyrocket.

3You obviously can't go overland all the way from Italy to Israel, as the border between Lebanon and Israel is closed. That means - theoretically - going by sea for part of the way, but there are no regular ferries to Israel. There are reports of occasional sailings from Cyprus to Israel (search the forum). Otherwise you'll have to fly from Turkey or Greece. Whether it's practical to go from Italy to Turkey or Greece by land is another matter! There are no international trains operating in Greece, for starters.

4Don't forget about Syria.
I addressed that on your other post.

5AS above,it is pretty much impossible to do it all overland...you are going to have to fly at some point.
Italy to Greece overland is easy enough, via Serbia if you want (personally I much prefer the coastal route..Croatia etc.)Combination of trains and buses...some parts are pretty slow going so you will need time.
Poland is a bit out of the way though....
