JIJIGA

I am going to be moving to Jijiga in December and will be there for a year while I work with an NGO. I have so many questions about the town: (1) Are there ATMs and places to exchange other currency into Birr?; (2) What is the weather like? Does it get cold? Does it rain a lot?; (3) Are there regular buses that go from Jijiga to Addis?; (4) Being a Muslim area, is alcohol readily available?; (5) Are there any hotels in the town where I can stay when I look for longer term accommodation?; (6) Are there places available to rent in Jijiga?; (7) Is vegetarian food available?

ANY information that can be provided would be very much appreciated. Absolutely anything would be helpful. Thank you so much!

Hi, might be worth grabbing a copy of the new Bradt guide to Ethiopia (make sure it's the one published in Sept 2012), a lot of your questions will be answered there.

I do not think it is a good way to learn about a particular place, first of all, there is always a cultural shock when ever you change your place. two, from your questions, you seem paranoid, that is not how you learn a new place. Just go there and fee the area, there is a transport, including flight and there are hotels with beer,. If you are part of the NGO that works with UNHCR, there is a rental flgith ever three days a week, save the children, oxfam, and Medicins san fronters....
