Countries where cameras are not allowed?

Hi. I plan to travel a lot in Africa. I've heard you need permission to bring a camera in some countries. I have a small Canon camera. Will it actually be taken from me if I don't get a permission in advance in some countries? Info is very much appreciated.

Hi,
I have not heard of a country that does not allow cameras.
I have seen lots of places with "NO Photograhs"!

Again I say that I'd love to hear where people 'hear' such utter gibberish - 1970s guidebooks perchance?

It's not that cameras are not allowed, but in some countries, like Sudan, you need a special permit to take pictures. And like anywhere else in the world, there are some places (particularly military buildings) that you are never allowed to take pictures of.

Don't know what you mean by that Kira?

I just want to make sure I do my big Africa trip without getting problems.

fluffy_bunny - Do I need a special permit to take any photo in Sudan or only of certain building?
