holiday Traveling around May 1 2013, need advice please - Guiyang to Guilin
Hi everyone.I was hoping to travel from Guiyang to Guilin on an overnight train on Friday May 3, 2013 with my husband and kids. Is this date still part of the May 1 holiday? When I googled the holiday dates some sites said May 1-3 and some said April 29-May 1. I'm confused.
How easy or hard would it be to get hard sleeper train tickets for that night?
Would it be any better to travel on Saturday May 4?
Thanks so much for your help,
AussieMissy

"Is this date still part of the May 1 holiday? When I googled the holiday dates some sites said May 1-3 and some said April 29-May 1."May 1 is Labor Day, but the official holiday is 3 days long: In 2013, it's Wednesday May 1 through Friday May 3. The days immediately before and after will still be part of a heavy "holiday travel period."

Getting your train tickets will be a bit more difficult than usual, but not impossible if you buy them as far ahead of your travel dates as you can. You can buy them any place in mainland China where you happen to be ten days ahead of time.
See earlier posts for more on the train ticket buying process.

#3 -- "I thought you could only buy train tickets from the station you were departing from. Is that information incorrect?"That information is no longer correct. Once upon a time it was, but not now.
Also, please remember that buying train tickets from a ticketing office in the city instead of at the station itself often is less of a hassle and comes at a very small premium (usually 10 RMB or less.)
