Domestic Airfares up by 70%

I was told by the Mumbai Iran Air office that the domestic airfares in Iran have been increased by up to 70% from yesterday. While buses and trains are indeed cheaper options, is a taxi ride between major cities cheaper than airfare considering cost versus time, and given the good state of the Iranian roads?

70% may sound like a lot, but with the current rates for other currencies it is still cheap to fly.

For example: last week for a flight Shiraz-Tehran i paid 18 Euros!
Yes, 18!!!

So, even if you add 70% that is not much compared to european standards. And it depends on the distance, i for myself would NEVER take the bus from Shiraz to Tehran. It takes forever. Yes, buses are ridiculously cheap, but think about if you have enough time to waste a whole day in bus.

I took many flights with iran air and was amazed at how cheap they were. It enabled me too see all the major cities including Zahedan, Mashad, Tabriz, Shiraz, Bandar e abass, Tehran etc. if i had only used buses i would have only made it to Shiraz. Iran is an amazing and diverse country and you will find each area has its own flavour. happy travels

Thanks! I agree on the low prices. Even with this increased fare, I have finally booked tickets for my wife and me through an Iranian travel agent for THR-SYZ, SYZ-IFN, IFN-THR, THR-TBZ, TBZ-THR - total coming to 422 USD, which makes it around USD 42 per sector per person. This is amazingly cheap!
