Light Rain Jacket
So I have read different opinions, so I am going to ask directly, is a light rain jacket necessary in Costa Rica during December and the beginning of January? Most of my time will be spent in Puerto Viejo or Bocas de Toro in Panama, but I do plan on doing some of the typical adventures like zip lining and visiting Poas National Park. So do I need an actual light rain jacket, or can I get away with packing those plastic, clear ponchos? Thanks!

in higher elevations and places like monteverde, a light jacket comes in handy at night - it can get a bit cool, especially if it rains. but if you are going to be at the beach, probably no need for it. light poncho and maybe a lightweight shawl or sarong. probably you won't end up using the poncho since the rain is not cold and in the heat of puerto viejo, it would be welcome.3
Dec and Jan will be dry overall or light rains for the most part, I would just bring a small umbrella....no need for a rain jacket, maybe a lightweight windbreaker that folds into itself as a small grapefruit sized pillow...if you were there during rainy season in July then its a different story...Dress for the beach overall. Who cares if you get a little wet..its the tropics.
