trekking in Sapa - group tour and home stay?

Just ask again about trekking in Sapa. We plan to have a trip in Sapa in a group of four. Still confuse about home stay or hotel. In addtion, i've just found out that the Sapa group tours is offered by some of these travel companies: Sinfcafe, Vietnam package travel, Vietlong travel and some more. As i remember, i've just see a post which is a negative option about Vietlongtravel. So what about these two i've mentioned above since their tour seems to be good. Or any other suggestions??? Consider between a group tour and private tour, any idea that which is better???

You might want to try this http://sapatribes.wordpress.com/ under "other suggestions. It was posted here a while ago and I was impressed with the straightforward presentation and the fact that the money goes directly to the indigenous people. I, myself, have never been to Sapa.

On my trip to Sapa I stayed for 2 nights in a hotel and did a 2 day/1 night home stay with SAPA SISTERS (members of H'Mong tribe), who I highly recommend. http://sapasisters.webs.com/ Contact these ladies to set up your trek/homestay and also take a look at their reviews on tripadvisor. They are awesome! I do suggest you give them a phone call if they don't reply quickly to your email message as I don't think they can read English and have to wait to have a translator read the email for them.

Group trekking with a "lambda" agency = hordes of tourists on the "Tourist Boulevards" of Ta Van or Ta Phin, especially with the Sinh Cafe or similar !!!!! . Private trekkings are infinitely better. A hmong in the street will take you without any problem for little money - you sleep in her house), OR you go to a SERIOUS agency like Sapatrek in Sapa, insisting on going out-of-the-beaten-path. That sapasisters seem s good, I don't know them (yet !)

Homestay in Sapa is great. I stayed here on Aug and it was great. It seems that private is more as expectation than private tour

Nice trip

homestay! and avoid the tourist route, it will take away from the serene natural surroundings. not to mention, you'll be followed everywhere by hmong girls trying to sell you something.

Oh i also plan to have a trip in Sapa, didn't hear about the homestay. Just image trekking in Sapa will be great since it has wonderful view and destinations. By the way, anyone can suggest me a tour. Dont want to trekking by ourself since we didn't have much experience about travelling in mountainous area. The last time i go to Vietnam was a Hanoi - Halong group tour from Vietnam package travel. Now i've found they has offer many tour to Sapa but dunno if is there any better agencies before i make up my mind.

Miss Huyen from one of my option for tour agents told me about Sapatrekkinghomestay.com. it sounds good but i still confuse since i'm ot sure to stay in others's house which isn't a hotel, thought it's just for friend. I mean how do these people suppose to be believe in strangers lol???

Hi,

I've been in Sapa few time and i'm sure that is better to book a tour directly from Sapa. There is many good agency in Sapa to find what you expect. In my case i have trekking around with SapaTravelmate and is was nice, i get some no-tourist trek. So i think you will find your happyness in Sapa.

Have a good trip

To Pacharakorn

Those houses are homestays, so the owners are used to welcome guests. Sleeping in one of them is one of the pleasures of trekking in the mountains of Northern Vietnam : not the same comfort as in a hotel, but authenticity garenteed
