excellent restaurant in New Bagan

For excellent cheap local dining in New Bagan, go to MiSan restaurant. It is off the main road on the way to Thazin Garden Hotel, right between the ruins and in a corner where you will not see many other tourists. The food and service is great, and the atmosphere low-key and local.

I'll second that recommendation! Had lunch there twice a week ago. Good food, sweet service and a real travelers place.

But it is not in New Bagan, it is in Old Bagan!
