Orangutans

I'll be in Pangkalan Bun next week and I'm wondering... do you have to book a tour with an agency for Tanjung Puting NP? I've read online that they're around $300. Also I'm limited on time so can you stay for one night or do you have to stay for longer?

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, don't think you can go into the NP on your own. If you are short of time you could just hire a speed boat (from the town of Kumai) and driver, and just do a day trip along the river. Don't know how much that is.

Or, yes you can do a one night trip on a klotok.

It may be possible to visit this orang utan hospital near Pangkulanbun Bun, we were told it's possible to visit and have a quick look but not 100% sure about that.

It is worth pointing out that before heading to Kumai to hire a boat (no need to go through an agency as such) you do have to get your permits to visit the park in Pangkalanbun. With limited time, a day by speedboat sounds OK. It should certainly cost much less than $300!

Thanks for your info!

I hear you can hire a klotok for 500,000 a day, and a guide for 150-200,000 a day. This sounds like a much cheaper way of doing things!

Do you think two days/one night would be enough time?
