Cheap flights in South America?
I´m desperately wanting to be in Buenos Aires for the big march against Cristina Kirchner, but the flights from Cuzco (where I have to leave from) are all prohibitively expensive. Is there a way, place, or trick to finding reasonably priced flights? Even just one at or under $600 USD would save the day. Thanks!1
I did a quick flight check on Kayak from the beginning of March for about a two week stay, roundtrip. There are flights just under $600 through LAN airways. Obviously this will change depending on what day you leave and return. There isn't much airline competition in South America, and getting to or going from minor cities will usually require going through major airport hubs in that country first, then go to another country. This limits your choices and fare options a lot. This is especially true of Cusco where most, if not all flights go through Lima, with only a few airlines. If you have enough credit card points/frequent flier miles, you could use those to reduce the costs.Hope that helps a bit!

Buying two tickets Cuzco to Lima and then Lima to Buenos aires can reduce flight costs significantly. Also sometimes the less obvious routes or longer routes work out cheaper. Oneway flights from Lima to Buenos aires start at $330 usd on Tam airlines via Sao PauloPlay around with dates and check
airlines like Taca, Aerolineas Argentina, Avianca, Lan for any special deals.

As cyrrus69 pointed out, to purchase two separate tickets one from Cuzco to Lima and another one from Lima to Buenos Aires could make it significantly cheaper. If you don't bother to fly out of La Paz (getting there overland), take a look at the fares of Boliviana de Aviación from La Paz to Buenos Aires.

Usually if you buy for example a LAN ticket Cuzco - Buenos Aires all together, the leg Cuzco - Lima comes very cheap, like USD 808
STA wont have much luck in securing cheap tickets in South America. Nor well any travel agency.
