Better area to stay Bangkok, Khao San Road area or Central BKK-Silom area?Probably going lower to mid range guest houses. What area is overall more central to attractions, restaurants, etc??? And has the better ambiance. 42 year old male traveling solo. Thanks!

1Do a search and you'll find posts where this has been debated. Everyone has their own reason for their preference. Pick an area and you can always move if you dont like it.
KSR area has been my preference since 1990. And in that time, have only ever stayed at 2 places. See no reason to move elsewhere when it supplies all I need I dont need to be near the skytrain when the river transport is close by.

3Depending on what you want to pay, there's a few cheapies, several New Siams . the Rambuttri Village Inn, all on Soi Rambuttri. Theres also new places on KSR itself but didnt take much notice of their names. For now, aircon not needed.

5Not into the bar girls at all. I'm staying right about 10 min walk from Khao San in Banglamphu and I would disagree with Thaibeachlovers and say this DOES have a lot ambiance and character. Phra Athit Road is super cool.
But that little strip of Khao San Rd itself too me is way too touristy, it feels like Venice beach over there with the tee shirt shops and bars blaring hip hop.
