15 day itinerary new zealand feedback pleaseI plan to travel to NZ on my honeymoon in the month of December first half.
I am from India and given marriages here can get really tiring, would want to start the trip with few days to relax and then the remainig trip can be medium to fast pace.. I love to drive..would want to cover as much as possible and prefer less touristy and off-beat places..
Request your feedback on the following itinerary in which I have tried to balance my needs.. many thanks in advance
1 Land at Auckland in afternoon - Drive to Taupo
3 Day trip to Rotrua
4 Drive back to Auckland - Flight to Queenstown
6 Queenstown (Take The Overnight Cruise Mil. Sound)
7 Drive to Wanaka
9 Drive to Franz Josef
10 Drive to Punakaiki in the afternoon.. stay overnight at Punakaiki
11 Drive to Abel Tasman (Where to stay? Nelson/ Picton/ Other?)
12 Abel Tasman area
13 Drive to Kaikorua in the afternoon
15 Drive to Christchurch in the morning
16 Flyout in the afternoon

1you'll find this more tiring than the wedding. You certainly should not be taking on a four-plus hour drive straight off an intercontinental flight, even though I believe that it is the same side of the road for you.
spend at least a day in Auckland without a car, plenty to see and do. Then go to Taupo or Rotorua. Fly from Rotorua to Queenstown (why backtrack to Auckland?) Your Punakaiki visit needs to be timed for high tide and unless you are doing one of the walks, will take an hour. You might want to give it longer at the glacier in case of bad weather, which is likely.
you'll find the drive times for all these routes on this forum.
not that it matters, but all these places are on the main tourist trail. That's fine, you are a tourist and everybody wants to see them for a good reason. NZ crowded is not the same as crowded elsewhere.

Do you think the trip will be tiring even with the stopover at Auckland? How is the trip paced otherwise? I dont want it to be too hectic.
I had booked a non- cancellable Auckland-Queenstown flight ticket hence the backtrack; helpful suggestion though.
I read your profile and that tempts me to seek your suggestions for any off-beat inclusions/substitutes in the itenerary?

4if the Auckland- Queenstown flight can't be changed, can it be moved to a different date?
failing that, I have to say to skip Rotorua for another time. Instead, stay in Auckland; my list of things to do are the Domain Museum, Mt Eden, Rangitoto, and maybe a day trip to Tiritiri Matangi which will easily fill up your time.

6I also think that it will be tiring to drive from the airport; can you take a bus, though?
