Getting to the C-aamino Frances

I'll be flying in from Australia to Europe Sept 2013. Any ideas on what is the best way to get to St Jean-au-pied...- train south from Paris, or fly somewhere nearer and bus or train it?

There are a couple of ways to get to St Jean Pied de Port, but I do suggest you consider staying in Paris for a couple of nights first, just to get over jetlag before starting the Camino.

You could consider flying from Paris to Biarritz, take the train, shuttle bus, taxi to Bayonne (it's only 8 kms), then train from Bayonne to SJPP. Sorry, can't advise on airlines as I've only taken the train.

Or, TGV from Paris Gare Montparnasse to Bayonne, then local train to SJPP. You can find timetables and book tickets at the French Rail website Voyages-SNCF.

Hi juliamp!

Welcome to TT!

This summer, bus company Conda started a new seasonal bus service from Pamplona to St. Jean Pied de Port. I don't know if they'll run it next year too (i.e.: if it has been successful) but if they would make it, you could fly to Madrid, take a bus to Pamplona and Conda's bus from Pamplona to St. Jean Pied de Port.

Otherwise, the options quoted by Germander in #2 will be able for sure. BTW, Easyjet flies from Paris to Biarritz.
