ZNZ airport - facilities?

We will be arriving in Zanzibar via Dar at 0800. My question is - will anything be open?

1) Money exchange
2) Duty free on arrival (does this even exist?)

We are heading off for Nungwi straightaway so would like to change some money, and possibly collect some duty frees before we go.

Any advice appreciated.

There is an ATM outside airport, but you never knows if it work. Cash money can also be changed in Nungwi.

Duty free when you arrive I do not think there will be any. The airport is very very small, take some booze with you from home or depature airport.

I took the Precision Air flight from Dar to ZNZ and arrived at about the same time - 8 am. Didn't see a duty free, but did see a money exchange that was open (I think there were two side by side that were both open.) - but it's just a money exchange there, not an ATM. At syller said, the ATM is outside.

The duty free shop is only for international departures, not for domestic arrivals, which I guess you will be if you are coming from Dar (unless that was only a scheduled stop-over on an interntional flight, which didn't require you to leave the transit area of the airport). Even then, you would still not be able to get into the international departure area of Zanzibar airport on arrival.

Would suggest you use the money exchange and / or ATMs in Stonetown - you pass directly through there, including straight past a Barclay's, on your way to Nungwi. You'll get a better exchange rate at the money exchanges in town, and Barclay's is the most reliable of the banks - after having problems with other banks ATMs, I will only use Barclays there.

No duty free & cash point had run out of cash when we arrived. There are money exchange kiosks but they will rip you off. Would also reccomend going to Stone town for money & provisions

Have visited Stone Town now and can report - there is an ATM at the airport, but it was switched off! There was a money exchange counter in the arrivals hall of airport but the rates were terrible! We walked around to 'departures' and got a better rate.

Our taxi stopped at the large Barclays on the edge of Stone Town where there are 2 ATMs (everyone seems to stop there when passing through Stone Town judging by the queue!) We managed to withdraw several lots of TSH 300,000 (max available in one withdrawal).
