Female solo travelers .. Safe to trek poon hillHi I be traveling to Kathmandu this weekend , after review some post it stated that is not recommend female to trek alone.
Therefore I have engaged a Local tour guide for the 5 days 4 nights trekking , what do you think ? Do you think is still safe to go ?
Or should I just do city tour ? Although I know is a waste ?
How do I check weather is the tour agency safe to use ? Prompt advise needed here.

Good to read that you are going to Nepal this weekend. Wish you all the very best for your trip.
About Poonhill Trek and your safety:
There are more than 300 trekkers doing Ghorepani - Poonhill Trek everyday so the route is full of tourists, trekkers. So I think it is no problem because you will meet many people everywhere all the day.
But again it is better to go with guide because it is high season so if you are alone it will be problem to find accommodation and more as you are now for that area. If you have guide it will be easy for you because he is local there.
When I was in Nepal I did Jomsom Trek with a englis speaking porter. It was busy season but everything went well with us about accommodation, food etc. It is always easy to work if you have contact with local.
Happy Trekking Holidays!!!

Safety concerns for solo women trekkers have increased since a murder and a missng woman in the Langtang area. There have been no such incidents in the Annapurna area recently but there are other general safety issues about trekking completely alone; illness and injury as well as personal security.
Hiring a guide is one solution so it is generally considered safe but it is a good idea to set boundaries with the guide. To see if the company is legitimate check the members directory on taan.org.np. It might be useful to see if other posters on here have experience with the company or the guide. The safest thing to do is not commit to the guide until you meet him and see if you trust him and will get on etc. Alternatively, hire a female guide. Have you paid any money for the guide yet?
Another solution is to find trekking buddies - Poon Hill is a popular trek and it will still be the busy season when you trek. You could still find trekking partners anyway - more info if you wish.
Poon Hill is not a difficult or dangerouse trek.

4I hiked with the Three Sisters in the mid-1990s and they were great! I'm going back next year, this time with my family, and although we aren't using them, I wouldn't hesitate to go with them again. For me the draw was going with a female guide. I booked on my own, but ended up with two other women in our party.

53 Sisters is not the only agency offering female guides; the most famous and specialist but other agencies do too. It's a question of requesting a female guide.
Some more information about 3 Sisters on this thread.

6Some good advice already posted
However before dashing off to book with 3 sisters you might like to read this report
As to safety issues as a solo female trekker - I think the first thing to mention is that it is Never a good idea to trek entirely alone in Nepal purely from a safety point of view, illness and small accidents can easily happen and if you don't have at least some backup these small problems can soon become Big ones !!
It is usually quite easy to find a trek-mate to go with, you could start off my browsing previous posts on this board as well as the Travelling Companions board and also posting your own threads. Also there is a new website specifically for finding trekking partners that would also be worthwhile copying you post to Here and hit the “Partner Adds” tab as well at Trek-Info
Good Luck and Happy Safe Trekking

9Go for trek ....... !!!
If you are not going to Poonhill, think about making short hikes around Pokhara. There are many options like
2 days hike around Pokhara - Phedi - Dhampus, Naudanda, Shrangkot
1 days hike Pokahra lake side to Peace pagoda on the top of the hill (stay at Raniban Resort).
Or think about easy 4 days Royal Trek.
Go for trek ..... enjoy Himalayas!!!
