Egypt Travel over Xmas - prebook?

Hi all,

we are planning our 21day Egypt holiday over Christmas and New Years. So far we've booked our flights into Hurghada and out of Cairo. We'd like to spend a couple of days in Luxor and Aswan to see the temples and tombs, dive in Hurghada and see the Pyramids in Cairo. Our only worry is that we don't want to book all the accommodation ahead, as we like to be flexible in staying longer at a place if we really like it. Now my question is - how risky is it to not book ALL the accommodation ahead? We know that this time of the year is usually busy, but on the other side we've heart that the numbers of tourists have declined a lot. What would you suggest?

Reg. Accommodation - we are a couple (25 and 30), travelling with my parents and my brother (23). We don't have very high accommodation standards, as long as the place is clean.. :)

thanks and greetings from Italy.

Welcome, There's no reason to pre-book. Tourism is way down and you have flexibility.

You'll do fine without booking ahead.

Have a great trip.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! Not to have to book ahead will make it so much easier!

Thanks again,

Don't forget, though, that it will probably still work out much cheaper to book your rooms over the 'net than trying to negotiate a discount from the 'rack rate' at the counter!

Thanks ourluxor!

I think we'll do a mix: prebooking some accommodation and leaving others "free" and choose on the spot where to stay!

Can't wait for the holiday to begin! :)

I prefer to book before arrival date, because if you start check on your arrival, maybe some people will use u and maybe will pay a lot for not good places

That's why I suggested booking over the Internet, Denmark8, even the day before the OP leaves wherever he is at the time.

Hello
We have booked flights to Egypt (2 adults and one 7 year old child) just after Christmas and have similar plans. However 2 days ago the UK Foreign Office have announced that they advise against travel to Egypt due to their discovering a terrorist plan to attack tourist hotels.
I don't know whether you know about this but I am trying to find out people's thoughts. We don't want to put ourselves and our child in danger but would lose 100% of the cost of our flights.

I addressed your question on your OP.
