How safe is El Salvador ?

My husband is from El Salvador ,the last time we were there was in 2001. We want to go and take our six yr. old son. We would be staying in a hotel in a nice part, but people keep saying its to dangerous for us to take our son...any comments on this subject?

No reports on this forum of issues any different that anywhere else in CA. Why would it be dangerous for your son? Unless he walks around with an Iphone and a Gold Rolex, cant imagine why he would be a target for anything.

If I turned on the morning news in your hometown, how safe would I feel, Linda? These people who keep telling you not to go, have they been there? ( I presume they are still alive) or do they just love being fear mongers? I live in the US and the police department just put notices around on a new child molest guy moving to the block.

I find that you can either travel and enjoy life or you can stay home. Either way, there is still a tombstone with your name on it. It is understandable that you don't want to place your child in harms way. You are not doing that by opening up the rich world of travel to El Salvador for your child. It is a part of his heritage. Enjoy.

"people keep saying..."
the thing about people is, they're idiots.

It is ridiculously safe.

Yes, they eat visiting sons there and serve them in a delicious stew, but that just means less expense for you in the long run.

For the month October here in Chicago, 117 shootings, 36 murders, for the year, over 400 murders, 5500 gang members arrested....but I bet your son would have a blast in Chicago...

Thanks for all the sarcasm....I have been to El Salvador 6 times ,I got to meet some of the nicest people there beginning with my in laws .it has some of the most wonderful places. my family has been there too..my concern was that the last time we were there we got robbed at gun point out side of my father in laws house.I never said the USA was a safer place.there is crime all over the world..it was just a question in regards to any of you that had been there recently.

You asked for comments and comments were given by a number of people. Have a nice day!

PS- Sincerely sorry to read you were robbed during one of your visits years ago. I have been there multiple times in recent years and have not been. If you are looking for validation of the view that the child should be kept away from his grandparents in El Salvador and no one has yet given it here...well...hells bells.

You are such a resentful person..

Linda, i bet you know more about El Salvador than any of the folks responding above. given that, they respond with attacking words instead of pertinent advice. you see, they live on this forum so when people ask too many of a similar question they get all riled up.

I've not been there but have brought my son to its neighbors since he was a baby. I wouldn't hesitate to bring him to El Salvador tho.

LOL Your profile says you are a 'a..hole and love whiskey" I won't argue with your own description of yourself. Nice try. And, of course, you have not been to EL SALVADOR. No one seemed riled up except you.
Since you know so much there is no need to ask advice here. LOL

It's always nice to see that special kind of trolling carried out people with deep local and family connections and extensive knowledge of an area playing dumb and creating accounts to ask "is ______ safe? I heard it's so dangerous, they also robbed me once" BS.

I'll be honest: I respect several style points, and hope this art does not go the way of the way of the dodo.
