Central America from 12/18 to 1/4
Hi all!I live in San Francisco and I'm looking to get out of dodge for the holidays. I'll be traveling solo and I'm looking for an exotic yet economical trip. My budget is about $2k USD. Looks like the cheapest flights right now are to Central America. I see one to Costa Rica for $800 USD.
I thought about renting a motorcycle and going around Costa Rica, Panama and parts of Columbia but alas I don't have a motorcycle license. So, I also thought about backpacking around a few countries and hitting up some surfing towns as I also like to surf.
I'm looking for recommended itineraries for the ~3 weeks I'll be there. Open to starting in any country but definitely want to travel around and experience some fun things. Looking for fun ideas. Thanks a lot for your help!!!

Nicaragua or El Salvador for surfing. Costa Rica the best bet for motorcycle rentals (Google for CAtours, Antigua and email them about your license). But the real point is that you should scale back your ambitions and consult a guidebook. I'm saying that because there's no way you're going to explore three countries by motorbike in three holiday weeks without prior experience riding in the Developing World....and that would be true even if there were a road connecting Panama and Colombia, which there famously is not.
Hope that's helpful.

Thanks a lot Mark. Looks like the cheapest place to fly into is Cost Rica. Maybe backpacking around CR and into Panama would be my best bet. Heard the surfing @ Ollies Point in CR is pretty good. Also heard the beaches in Panama are really nice. What do you think?
