Eating in Kandy

I have just come back from a three week visit to Sri Lanka.
For the record, in the 2012 guide book, it says of Kandy, “ Eating out in Kandy is pretty much a non-event”
I'd like to correct that.
We stayed in the Queen’s Hotel, and found a lovely, no-frills South Indian restaurant just round the corner from there, which we liked so much we went back the following night too. It’s cheap, no tourists (except for us), spicy, and delicious.
Look out for Sriram, Indian restaurant, Colombo Street, Kandy. Its highly recommended.
Left out of the Queens Hotel, first left, and on your left.

I have eaten there three times and every time I say I am never going to go back.
Very bland and no thickness to the curry. They do not sell nan or tandoori and basically it's between a Sri lankan and Indian curry.I love Indian food and this is not even close to being classed as Indian.
The best place by far to eat Indian food in Kandy is the White House Restaurant which is on the main street along from KFC.
Go out of Queen's turn right and walk past KFC and you will see the white house on left. This place is also reasonable priced for the quality of food.
Across the road is the muslim hotel which sells very cheap food and also quite tasty.
Maybe you should check Tripadvisor for eating before/when arriving at a city.
Rams is only 18 on list!

If money is no object and you happen to be in Colombo then The Mango Tree is one of the best places to eat Indian food in the whole of Sri Lanka. It is expensive but you get what you pay for.

spunkywads,

Tandoori is North Indian food. Mango Tree in Colombo, an excellent place indeed, is also primarily North Indian.

francesswann has stated that the place she liked in Kandy was South Indian.
Is it possible we are dealing with a difference in taste? Just a thought. Can't say for sure since I have never been to Sri Ram.

Hi Xojar,
Yes, you are probably right. I have never been to Southern India and so all my memories of Indian food are as you say Northern Indian. I love Nan, Tandoori oven.
However I still feel that Rams isn't up to any good standard.

Slightly Chilled Lounge and Bamboo Garden are also a very nice places to have good (also continental) food, drinks and nice music.
