Lift Closures in Whistler

We are a family of 5 going skiing and snowboarding in Whistler 9-16th January 2013. Do the lifts close very often due to blizzards? Do they usually close for days at a time or just usually one day. We have purchased 6 out of 7 day lift tickets - so have one day leeway.

The hill is massive!! You have pretty much 0% chance of having the hill completly shut down while there. It would have to me a memorable blizzard lol Lake Louise stays open at the top at -40 temperatures (with low winds though)...yikes

I agree with little. And oddly, I've skied at LL at -20C (which was cold enough for me).

The only time I've known of closures there was when there was a problem with the lift itself-and that is rare.

It the lifts do close it will just be the few that go to the very top. It takes a very extreme storm to shut the whole mountain. This might happen once every couple of years..

Also If you cant ski WB will happily refund the lift tickets you couldn't use. They are very good about things like that!

I wouldn't worry!

Great time to come to whistler the slopes are nice and quiet in jan usually!

Skied in QC at -20C and it blows....I hate having my face freeze on the way down.
You will have NO problem as the other posters have pointed out.
This is a very big resort area.
I've always preferred Fernie cuz I think its the best powder in Canada, but if this is your first time, you really can't go wrong with W/B....its an entire planned community with an amazing variety of runs, and pretty much the most temperate climate of any big hill in Canada.
Enjoy.

You will have no probs, as everyone says. Its two huge mtns that its only usually the higher chairlifts at top of mtn that is shut as its more exposed than the others tucked away in trees. There is plenty of terrain to play in and they are pretty good at keepin you posted at the bottom before you head up.

Youll have a ball, enjoy and may the smow gods be on your side

They do sometimes close lifts due to weather but there are so many and so much terrain that you'll be fine.
