Which is best river for rafting: Balsa, Toro or Pacuare?
We're planning two weeks in Costa Rica and we 5 days unscheduled. For these remaining days we'd would prefer to only travel to one side of the country and it must include river rafting. We like rafting classes III and IV. Should we spend this time on the easterns ide rafting the Pacuare and visit Tortuguerra or instead travel west and go to Arenal and raft the Toro or Balsa rivers?1
The Rio Pacaure is the best river to raft in Costa Rica, but it depends what month you go (rainfall) for when its a Class III-V. Its also a beautiful river, that actually crosses the Continental Divide, and you can swim in areas of the river that are flat and clear with waterfalls and rope bridges for the indigenous native tribes, which also live off the land on the caribe slopes of this unique eco system that is non stop fun, its more than just a river....https://www.exploradoresoutdoors.com/

Pacuare is one of the nicest rivers for rafting(my favorite, because of the scenery and good action), it has sections of class 3 and 4. Most people with acceptable phisical condition may enjoy this river. Balsa River depends on an electric Dam so there may be changes that may affect your plans. About the operator mentioned above, they do a good job and may drop you off after the rafting either in Arenal or in Puerto Viejo of Limon. if you want a discounted price check a couple of the tour operators on the Costa Rican tourist board website http://www.visitcostarica.com
