Balloon in Cappadocia (Turkey)
Has anyone been on the balloon ride offered by the "Nomad Cave Hotel'? It is the cheapest option I can find, because I am staying at the hostel, but I don't want to skimp on the experience and have a bad time. Also, they offer cheaper than average tours of Cappadocia using the "Rose Travel Agency." Has anyone used this company?
Thanks,
Brad

Well the problem with cheaper balloon rides is that they can less skilled pilots. The day I went we saw a cheaper tour agency take off and instead of sticking close to the ground like our pilot, their pilot got a little too high to start and then couldn't get back down because of the morning updrafts and ended up way off course. I would suggest reading into the best ones - the one we did was Sultan and it was fine - the pilot is quite accomplished.2
Hi, I did the ballon ride in Cappadocia Sept 2011 with Sultan Ballons www.sultanballons.com. I was with Travel Talk tour. Not only was it the most amazing experience, our pilot landed our ballon on the back of a trailer!
The cost was 300 Euro and was well worth the experience, highly recommend, cheers Chrissy

My husband, friend, and I found the hot air balloon ride a complete waste of time and a waste of a lot of money. Other people I know had a good time but our company was TERRIBLE. Avoid Balloon Turca at all costs. We saw nothing and paid a lot of money. We even paid extra money to be in a smaller balloon that could maneuver through the valley but we didn't even go near a valley. All we saw were dirt fields and trash - we hovered over a dirt patch for 20 minutes or more before landing in the middle of nowhere. All the other balloons were in the right area and went through the fairy chimneys. It felt like our pilot had no idea what he was doing. We spoke to the manager about what had happened and the owner refused to do anything about it. Maybe check out a better company or skip ballooning altogether - definitely avoid Balloon Turca.
