INDIA, 6 months visa, but 'stay not to exeed 90 days'. NEW RULE FOR ALL??

I now got my visa valid for 6 months, but in small letters it says 'stay not to exeed 90 days'. In my other visas for India it only says about the 180 days. I asked the embassy in Norway about this, and they say it is a new rule for ALL TOURIST. I also have friends in the uk that confirmes this. also they still have the 60 days outside rule if you want to reenter. but this can be fixed in India I think? or not?
IS THIS TRUE? some people say they don't have it in their visa for this year, but the embassy says it's for all people travelling on tourist visa.
what do you have in your visa this year for India?

It seems you have what started out in the Netherlannds and is spreading slowly in northern Europe. Its not for all countries thankfully or not for those people travelling on the road. The 60 day rule is common for all. But it allows one off visits to neighbor countries & Thailand. I have hear you can get a cover letter at the FROs for these countries. But, I don't recall a posting referring to such for other countries.
Cheers..

I got my visa (embassy in Stockholm) in mid July valid for six months, double entry. There's no such stipulation like in yours.

You can do your 90 days, then go to KTM for 2-3 days and come back. You will be much better off getting this fixed before you come here.I don't believe you will get to much accomplished here in India.

well, my visa is actually valid for 6 months. anyway they say 90 days now is for all tourists.

in my lasta visa, who lastet until june 2012, it said only about the 180 days.
now it says nothing about the 60 days outside, but it's still on they say.
this is in small letters under the dates, and it seems random every year what rule they want to put there, couse is not complete information. somtimes it says 60 days outside, somtimes 180 in, somtimes about restricted aerea.
FRRO can fix this i think if i want reentry from kathmandu, but can they fix the 60 days outside rule to?

"they say it is a new rule for ALL TOURIST"

They can say whatever thy want. They do not have a clue. Every Indian embassy or consulate in the world, even the important ones, read the rules as they wish. Usually, staff that works with issuing visa is incompetent, full of self-importance and ignorant.Often, stupid too(I know from my own experiance).
Of course it is not for all the tourist. In plenty of countries people get 6 months visa without any strings attached - anything else mentioned.

flanagan states correctly, the consulate staff are pretty stupid. That is why it is important to go there well dressed,Keep a sites to visit list in your pocket, and give them a India address and contact number on the form. They like that, all of the form filled out.Make up the name and tel #. The rules have changed so much the last 5 years.I can barely keep up.
