El Mirador from Mexico

I am flying into Cancun with a month to travel and want to hike to El Mirador in Guatemala. Is there any way to access El Mirador from the Mexican border? What would be the best way to get there (easiest/fastest/cheapest) without flying? Should I try to make reservations in advance with a tour company? Thanks for any info!

You can cross into Guatemala by land from Mexico and then plan your hike to El Mirador. Dont book in advance only when you arrive.... There are couple of ways you can cross over to Guatemala from Mexico. See the Mexico branch and ask there.

The best way to do it would be from Chetumal to Belice and then Flores Petén looking for Carmelita town and services. You can also get to Guate from México directly over the Usumacinta river on the left side of Petén.

Sadly there are no open roads or crossings from Campeche. I recently visited Calakmul and was very surprised by how close I Was to Tikal, Uaxactún and El Mirador on the GPS it is doable but no clear border crossing over the jungle.
