Caspian

Hey travellers!

Does anyone have any suggestions about the Caspian and some places I may want to stop to check it out. I have read mixed reviews and seems to be hard to find a great deal of information about it. I thought I was going to be able to go somewhere and sit on the beach eating caviar and maybe even have a swim. Or is that just silly?

Any experiences, feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Safe Travels,

AussieBren

Hi
i live very close to Caspian sea . you can swim in the summer time and eat caviar or any other fun you want to do .
i suggest you Parsian Azadi Hotel Khazar .It is located near Namak Abroud Tele-Cabin and all these beauties attract tourists.and Salman shahr beaches.

be happy

I am not one to tell others what they should see if they already know what interests them, but if you only have 10 or 11 days in Iran, you must weigh up time spent sitting my the beach, with time that could otherwise be used in Yazd, Esfahan, Shiraz, Tehran. Being perhaps Australian there are no shortages of beaches there when you get home.

Hi, I'm 68 years old and female, so possibly not representative of the average traveller to Iran, but my second trip to Iran in 2007 included a camping trip with Iranian friends to the Caspian Sea area and I thought you might be interested in hearing my experiences so I'll PM you some photos of that trip and extracts from my holiday diary.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend seeing the Caspian Sea region at the expense of the usual tourist trail (Tehran, Yazd, Shiraz, Esfahan, etc)and it's probably best experienced on a trip with native Iranians, especially if you're female. Once, in Astara, I took a couple of hours out alone and tried to buy some lunch, but the joint I picked refused to serve me .. or rather, I became invisible .. families all around me were being served but I was obviously destined to starve. This doesn't happen in the usual tourist destinations where female tourists are treated courteously.

I've been back to Iran since then, to weddings etc, and I'd recommend Esfahan as the best destination for anyone who doesn't already have local contacts to show them round. The Caspian Sea region is OK but we have better beaches in the UK (try Cornwall) or as someone said, you must have even better beaches in Oz. But you wouldn't have the buzz of Azerbaijani touts approaching you on a busy moonlit beach in Astara saying "Wanna buy a bottle of whisky?" (Don't say yes, it's not worth the risk.)

Hi Sabbo2. You could post some Caspian sea extracts on Thorntree if they are interesting. I and others always like to hear about others' travels.
