I am after any advice or tips on getting to Haiti from Puerto Rico.
I will be in Puerto Rico and am wanting to visit Haiti for Fete Gede next month. I am struggling to find a reasonably priced and somewhat direct route.
All airfares seem to route me through MIA (Miami) or FLL (Fort Lauderdale), or I can piece together a flight from SJU (San Juan) to SDQ (Santo Domingo) then a separate flight SDQ to PAP (Port au Prince), however that is $400.
The only other alternative is to get to SDQ then take a 9 hour bus to PAP. I am trying to find a nice balance between a direct route and an affordable (i.e. less than $250) price.

The only somewhat direct route is changing planes (and airports) in Santo Domingo. Any other route involves detours (either through the USA or through Panama or through Guadaloupe) and it can involve an overnight stay where you change planes.

I don't know what are your travel dates but I think you could be able to make it cheaper. You can fly from San Juan to Santo Domingo (Las Americas airport) with Jetblue and from Santo Domingo (La Isabela airport) to Port au Prince with AerolíneasMas. I think Tortugair also flies from La Isabela to Port au Prince but their web doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment.
