Algarve in Nov. Salema or Tavira?

I'll be in Portugal for 9 days around the end of November.

In addtion to Lisbon & Evora, I also want to spend 2-3 days in Algarve. Where should I stay? Salema or Tavira?

Thanks,

Hello,

There is a nice site with information about beach village.
http://www.goalvor.net/
Alvor is a nice spot with alive music ( bars and restaurants )
There is a large choice of hotels and bed and breakfast, in private home.
Alvor is very close from the historic village of Lagos and the landscape is beautifull with long areas of beaches and dunes as well hills cliffs and the view of the mountain of Monchique wich it is a 15 minutes distant.

Hi,

Both good choices.
Tavira has the lagoon, calmer seas, plus the charming historic town.
Salema is good for the west coast, more rugged scenery, surfing.
You may want to have a look at hideawayportugal.com for both the Algarve and Lisbon, Évora.

Have a great trip!

Thanks. Can I get to Alvor by public transportation, from either Lisbon or Evora?

Thanks Bruce2012. Considering I'm coming in Winter (end of Nov), will places be open in either location?

Hi,

it all depends. Both Tavira and Salema are places with a mellow vibe and a easygoing lifestyle. Tavira is a small town with more things to do and more people while Salema is a small fishing village with the white small houses running down the hill, perfect for some quietness and tranquility. They are both very calm, maybe Salema is too calm in this time of the year. If you ask me I would choose Salema and Tavira and Lagos and Sagres and all over Algarve. All you need is a campervan. Check out http://portugalbyvan.wordpress.com/ and have the entire coastline for yourself. Either way have a nice stay in beautiful Portugal.

Cheers.

Hi,

even though Salema is a charming and beautiful fishing village worthy of a visit, I would recommend Tavira. You have more things to do in Tavira than in Salema.

Clara
