Hi there, first of all, what kind of outdoor experience are you going for? Just the scenery of adventures like trekking, hiking, those kind of stuff?

But generally, I would say go book a bus trip to Bay of Islands, start up North and make your way down from there. Then to Rotorua and Hobbiton. In Rotorua you can see geysers, beautiful grass field landscape, and in Hobbiton you can see the movie set of Lord of The Rings, I can tell you that it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever saw. From there go down to Waitomo (the glow worm cave) and Lake Taupo as well. That all should cover your 7 days stay ;)

As it will be wintertime, how could will it be? We are undecided between southern and northern island (perhaps 4 days from Christchurch and 2 days in Auckland). Any thoughts? Also, we are into wines!

Also, is Marleborough doable in 2 days from Wellington?

Hi,

It will be pretty cold at that time of the year, it was between 3ºC and 15ºC in June/July 2008 when I visited. I can only comment on the central part of the North, around the Taupo area but there was plenty to do. Snow Skiing, Jet Boating, White Water Rafting, Black Water Rafting, Horse Riding, Bicycle Wine Tours, Bunjee Jumping off the Skytower in Auckland, Tramping (NZ for hiking/bushwalking), Trout Fishing just to name a few things. Message if you want more info.

Cheers.

Would the Marleborough region be nice to visit even in wintertime?

Does anyone have any first hand experience in Marlborough in the winter?

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer on this, but I don't think winter would that regions best time of the year. Perhaps just after or before winter???

Any locals on here that can offer some advice?
