If you use common sense and avoid any demonstrations it's plenty safe.

Ditto. I'm also in Cairo right now and there's no reason to worry. If you're female, just be aware of street harassment, but I don't think it should stop you from going to Egypt.

I got the info from

http://www.safetravel.govt.nz/destinations/egypt.shtml

On 16 September 2012, armed insurgents mounted an attack from the roof of the Governor’s Office in El Arish. Eight civilians were injured, one seriously.
On 5 August 2012, 16 Egyptian border guards were killed in an attack near the Rafah border crossing. Seven attackers were killed by Israeli forces on the Israeli side of the border.

Anyway, thank for feedback.

Al Aresh is near the border with Gaza. Avoid all boarder zone area and use common sense else where and you'll be fine

Why not consider Turkey. It is still safe. Maybe not for much longer but now is okay. The antiquites there are western but hey, what's wrong with that?

There have been no reports of injury to tourists at all. You can easily go straight to the Pyramids once you get into Cairo, and stay out in that district at a hotel there if you would prefer. If you look on a map, Giza is not close to Tahrir Square, and has not been a site of unrest.

I know that there are good deals right now to get into the pyramids as well and tour them in an unusually free way due to lowered tourism.

Check your State Department website if you have particular questions about safety concerns. They err on the cautious side.

check your own Government's warnings. THEN check your travel insurance as to your cover IF you don't follow yoor Government's warnings. IF unsure about the legal language in your policy phone the insurance company. If you get a confused reply email them to get someting in writing.

AirportInfo, you seriously need to CHECK A MAP. What happens in Al Arish / Rafah has no relevance for your trip since you will not be allowed to go there without a special permit. This has been a closed area for many years now. The border crossing you want to use is located in Taba / Eilat, in a completely different location.

Cairo is perfectly safe as long as you're not dumb - meaning if you don't walk on the street half naked or jump into crowds as they protest.

Molsons is a troll, do not listen to what he says.
