Flights to/from Manaus in Nov/Dec
I am travelling through Brazil for a month and plan to spend 1wk to 1.5 wks in Rio, Salvador, and the Amazon. I am using Gol to book my flights...and holy smokes is it expensive! I am seeing $300 US to fly Rio to Salvador one way and then $500 more to fly one-way Salvador to Manaus. It seems Manaus is the problem being so expensive.Any ideas? Other airlines? Tips for dates - ie. do Amazon in Nov vs Dec or something? Skip the Amazon? (I went in Bolivia last year but absolutely loved it and would love to go back. But is it worth this price tag?)
Also - should I book these now or wait until I am in Brazil?
Thanks in advance!

With that short time, you barely have time to see Rio and Salvador and area. Go up the lovely coast between them by bus, stopping at beaches. Add some time at the Colonial towns in the mountains of Minas Gerais.High season comes with high season prices, including airfare. Check the GOL and TAM airpasses if you want to include Manaus. Don't wait to book in country; only more expensive as time goes on.

Oops! I meant 1-1.5 weeks in EACH of Rio/Salvador and the Amazon = one month total.3
Flights to Manaus are invariably expensive. On the other hand unless you are travelling at peak you really shouldn't be paying R$600,00 for an airfare to Salvador.Look at Webjet and Azul.Personally I found Manuas to be a complete craphole but tastes differ.

It's kind of difficult to get to the Amazon without going there.5
Well there's always Belém, which is a much more pleasant city. I suppose it all depends on what you want to do on the river or the region.7
I thought about Belem - I can take a 5-6 day river boat to Manaus, and then do a 3-5 day jungle tour from Manaus, and then fly from there straight back to the US. Thoughts on that option?So I could fly US-->Salvador-->Rio-->Belem, Manaus--> US
OR
US-->Rio-->Salvador-->Belem, Manaus-->US
Does the direction matter?
