Best way to go about booking flights from Lima to Cusco?
Hey everyone,Two friends and I are heading to Peru on December 15th and will be landing in Peru early on the 16th. I want to fly to Cusco the same day we land and book it in advance. I'm having troubles finding out who to book through because there are lots of differing info on the internet. Any advice on what to do/who to book through for the cheapest one way flight? Also, will Machu Picchu be sold out days in advance mid December? We were trying to decide if we should buy our tickets for Picchu online in advance as well or just get them in Cusco.
Thanks.

Star Peru and Peruvian airlines are the cheaper options. LAN and TACA are expensive. You can book with them through internet. If you just want to visit Machu Picchu, and not do the Inca Trail or climb Huayna Picchu, it may not be necessary to buy the tickets in advance. You can check availability on www.machupicchu.gob.pe, clicking on Consultas/Queries.3
Though as a foreigner, you won't be able to purchase tickets to Machu Picchu using that website (due to the large number of fraud cases from foreign cards). You will have to either get a hotel/tour agency to do it, or once in Cusco, book it there. However, if you have booked your Inca Trail, than your agency would of done it already.
To be honest, I don't think you'd have a hard time buying a ticket (there are 2,500 tickets per day). So if you do leave it to when you get to Cusco, do it first thing once your there.

Star Peru, LC Peru and Peruvian Airlines would be your best bet. TACA, although it appears to offer a good rate...will charge a foreign (gringo) fee, which is $178 per round trip extra. Not sure what it is for one way. Same goes for LAN. I flew on Star Peru and LC Peru, both are great little airlines.5
If you would book now this would be the options:http://www.lcperu.pe/index_en.php has one flight on the 16th @ 08:05 AM: 108 USD each, one way
http://www.starperu.com/ who has 4 flights between 06:55 & 09:05 AM: 122 USD each, one way.
http://www.peruvian.pe/en has four flights on the 16th between 06:00 & 13:30: 121 USD each, one way
http://www.taca.com/ has five flights that day for 181 USD each or 19 USD more in business class, full rate (not the Promo rate which is only for Peruvians and foreigners living in Peru).
Lan Peru has flights as well but much more expensive if you are not Peruvian or do not live in Peru.
Peruvian airlines & Taca use larger planes than LC Peru & StarPeru and are less prone to delays due to weather conditions (rainy season).
You don't have to book Machu Picchu in advance if you don't want to climb Huayna Picchu, if you want to climb it you have to book it in advance. Friends who were traveling with us in August & September booked through the hotel we stayed at and paid no commission but had to pay for the tickets through Western Union. If I'm not wrong you can also wire money to their account but from Spain or Belgium it was cheaper through Western Union.
