camping in rv Quitana RooPlease, can someone recommend not outrageous expensive place between Cancun and Chetumal,
closer to Chetumal rather , where would be possible to camp/park small motor home for 10 days-2weeks .
We look for the place not more expensive than $20/night .
We are very open to "rustic" conditions, what counts is O.K. location, nice beach, etc .
We do not care much for hook ups , have own electricity , shower and bathroom would be of value .
Does the place like this exists, or should we forget about this part of Mexico , due to prices I see on Internet .

1Between Kms 15/16 on the 307 North of Chetumal... There is RV parking at Balenario Cocolitos... On Laguna Bacalar...No hookups.. This from the third edition of the Travelers Guide to Mexican Camping...Should you be doing extensive RV travel in Mexico...I suggest obtaining a current edition...The "Church" guide is the best information available...carracar

2Consider detouring slightly to the Xcalak Peninsula. I've seen people tent camping there at establishments located along the beach road just south of Majahual/Mahahual. The dated web site that I've linked below list lists some establishments that were in business circa 2005.
When I visited Xcalak town in December 2010, the nearby "Maya Village" campground was no longer operating. Vandals had destroyed its restroom and shower facilities.
If you make a day trip to Xcalak,, arrange, if possible, to have dinner there at the extraordinary "Leaky Palapa" restaurant. People travel to Xcalak from other places to eat gourmet meals there.

4There is/was (a year ago) camping on the beach in Mahahual, no hook ups but they have showers and bath rooms to use. North of Chetumal check out "Gringo Dave's", it's on a lagoon, not the ocean. Dave is a nice guy, again no hookups but showers and bathrooms you can use. I thought he charged me about $20USD/night a few months ago for my VW camper. He may even be able to tell you of more upscale if you want. There is RV space at Paamul from what I'm told but never used it.
Good luck, let us know what you find.
