John - you are being unfair. Anita later added "Since I'll be touring Mexico before Cuba, maybe it is possible that I get a ticket in Mexico. Does this sound more workable? "

Sorry mate - don't understand - unfair to who/how?
My point was that to absolutely obtaining a ticket for a paricular flight then the earliest one gets it the better. Hence if the direct purchasing from Cuban website for whatever reason is not working then buying via an agency is the next best option.
If the risk of not getting a seat on a particular flight/date doesn't matter much then later is fine.
I would agree that probability of getting seat 2 weeks before in Mexico is a reasonable one - just no guarentees.

I appreciate the information that all of you have contributed. At last, I made it with a visa card of another local bank.

John - #13 suggested making a reservation and then picking up the ticket once she was in Mexico. You criticised that because her original query was about booking over the internet, whereas his suggestion is a possible alternative that could be considered.

#19 well done Anita much better than waiting until the last minute given your particular needs!

#21 B - Yes I agree Divertout's alternative is a consideration but verrry low within the parameters suggested by Anita.

#20 I'm from Hong Kong. The bank is Hang Seng Bank, which is a subsidiary of HSBC. I understand from another forum that HSBC credit cards issued in HK also work

Good to know. HSBC is also in Latin America.

#21 Yes but strangely whether HSBC works varies from one country to another so ones from Oz apparently don't.
