Travel Insurance
Hello to all,I am currently attempting to sort out backpacker travel insurance as I fly back to Asia in 2 weeks time. I wish to purchase longstay, worldwide insurance (excluding USA & Canada). I'm having difficulty finding a policy as most of the policies state that the buyer must have "Lived in the UK for at least 6 months in the last 12". This is not the case with me,as I only returned from my previous trip on the 21st June and leave again on the 15 Oct. (16 1/2 weeks at home, just over 4 months). I was also home for 5 1/2 weeks in January this year, but that still doesn't take me up to the 6 months mark! In total, in the last 12 months I have been at home for 22 weeks. (5 1/2 months, if one month is 4 weeks) I have emialed a couple of insurance companies this evening, but wondered if anybody else had experienced problems with this? I don't want to purchase a policy that is isn't valid, if something does happen as this is just a waste of money!
I have already booked my flights, before realising this would be an issue.
Thank you for any help.

...and nor do Direct Travel, last time I looked - I used them repeatedly for just this reason. Never had an actual claim so can't comment on that, but the time I thought I would have a claim they were very prompt and helpful in dealing with the initial report. (Malaysian hospital expenses that in the end were never charged, thank you Malaysia)5
I always got insurance from the Post Office and don't recall any such stipulation.11
"You must have lived in the United Kingdom or the Channel Islands for at least six of the last 12 months before you bought your policy."...Copy and pasted from insure and go, backpacker bronze policy wording.

Hi,I think you are maybe misinterpreting the word "lived". Your permanent residence would be in the uk when you are traveling, I presume. I will study the wording on my old policies - but feel that the phrase is aimed at someone who has recently taken up residence. Have you spoken to any companies and asked for clarification?
