No, you won't find Meticals in the UK.

In general for ATMs in Moz, I think you need a card of the Visa variety (debit or credit). I think Mastercard is problematic.

Meticais are not traded anywhere outside of Mozambique (officially), not even in neighbouring South Africa. Agree with stokeygirl, there are now ATMs in every backwater of Mozambique, but VISA is much safer than Mastercard. American Express is close to useless.

Visa is king in all of southern africa.

Quite a big difference between the daily withdrawal limits by bank, so look out first for Barclays which allows you to draw 10,000 MZN in one go.

In answer to your specific question, actually there is NOT an ATM in Tofo itself. Or at least, there wasn't one when I was there in August last year.

However, there IS one ATM at the (very small) shopping mall at the petrol station on the road from Tofo to Inhambane but it's the only one within reasonable distance of Tofo itself and so it's very popular. Don't rely on it to be full of cash all the time. Not sure whether it takes Visa or Mastercard (or both) but to be on the safe side, I always carry one of each.

If you don't have your own transport, I'm not sure how you'd get to the mall to draw out your cash. There's a bus service from Tofo so you may be able to use that....

Don't know about ATM availability at Inhambane airport but there are plenty of ATMs in the town centre, all of which take either Visa or Mastercard (or sometimes both).

There's no ATM in Inhambane airport (last time I checked), but there are ATMs in Inhambane. The small petrol station near Tofo doesn't accept MC (at least not mine), no sure about VISA. But Barclays accepts MC just fine.
