If you combine the excellent Wreck Diving in Coron with the amazing Island Hopping from El Nido then its one of the best destinations in the Philippines..2
I've lived in Palawan since last year and I can tell you that it's among the best islands to visit especially if you plan to do a lot of diving. With respect to your question, while I don't have any diving-specific posts in my blog, I have written numerous posts that touch upon life here in Palawan. Check it out at http://retirednoway.wordpress.com.

A friend and I spent two weeks in Palawan in 2008 and we loved the island. Its referred to as The Last Frontier. Its really unspoiled and unpolluted. We had concerns as we read up on the case,a few years ago of the tourists that were kidnapped by muslim terrorists and held in another island. When we arrived the capital Porto Princess was teeming with US marines training the local navy and we felt very safe,in fact returned with my gf for a week last 2009I can recommend the place,I am not a diver but the waters are so clear and unspoilt. Go for it

Palawan is a really beautiful place. For an experienced diver, Coron gives you a chance to dive real WWII wrecks. The town is small and nightlife is sparce, but available. El Nido has a larger emphasis on Island Hopping and lounging on the beach. But, there are a few dive companies. On the way to Puerto Princessa is the underwater river. I have lived in Coron for almost 5yrs. If you want specific advise about accommodations or getiing around, let me know.
