New LP Colombia guide and itinerary help

Hello everyone,
My wife and I are coming to Colombia for 2 weeks starting Oct 27. Two questions please:
1. Should we fly into Bogota and out of Cartegna? Will that allow for a good opportunity to see the country? We like culture and food (not nightlife) and a day or 2 on the beach
2. I've read horrible reviews of the earlier LP editions for Colombia. Has anyone used the one that just came out? Worth using?
Thanks
Michael

I think the new guide is great, I used the 5th edition (previous) as well, and didn't have any issue with it either, but the new one is more polished.

With only 2 weeks, I think Bogota and out of Cartagena is a good idea, much better than in & out of the same city. Cause you really don't want to lose valuable time backtracking with the long travel distances involved. And that route gets you a mix of mountians and coast, and lots of options in between. If you like smaller places, hit towns north of Bogota like Villa de Leyva, Barichara, etc, or if you wanted to add another large city you could include Medellin. Or Santa Marta. But sounds good to me.

Agree with #1 concerning itinerary.

Furthermore, you'll be there on low season regarding Colombian holidays: you could spend your 2 days of beach in Parque Tayrona, which is a wonderful place (but gets very uncomfortably crowded on peak times). And if you have a bit of cash to waste, the ecohab there is a real paradise. (see this site )

It was OK. The maps were good as usual. Didn't always list all the sites. We also took the Bradt guide and they worked well together. It was agreat trip though. I highly recommend Villa de Leyva, the salt mine at Zipaquira, Medellin and Cartagena. Bogota less so. Have a great time!.
