Best bank account for Canadians travelling to South America?

Hello everyone,

After hours of research and not coming up with much ive decided to post here. I was wondering if anyone
knows the best bank account to have for Canadians traveling to South America?

http://www.28degreescard.com.au/ This master card from australia can be loaded with your own money and it has no monthly fees, no atm fees, no currency exchange fees. Does anyone know anything like this for Canadians?

Thank you

There is none. TD Trust Select Service is the best as it gets, you will not be hit by withdraw fees, but they will charge you 2,5% fx fee commission. On top of that you have to keep minimum balance of $5000 CAD not to attract $30 (!!!) monthly fee.

For a credit cards that's the only without fees I'm aware of
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/cobrandcard/marketing.html/?inc=ca15gc&place=camp&plattr=CAYA&pr=con31ca
This would probably be the best bet, but in fees it says "1.0% of the Cash Advance amount, minimum $5.00" I'm not sure if this fee applies if you have possitive credit, you should call them and ask them.
It's also a bit of a hassle as you have to keep an eye on your balance, as if you keep it positive they will charge you at the end of the billing cycle
Other alternative is to open a US based account with no fee Visa debit card(but forget about Schwab, they will not open account for Canucks), convert your CAD to USD (it's not a bad time, as CAD is strong) and use it during your travels
I would probably do combination of above and forget about rip off TD, Amazon credit card for point of sale pays and US Visa Debit for cash

By opening the US based account, RBC will do it for you straight but account is rather useless (you'll pay 2,5% fx charges). Otherwise you'll have to get US address, do you know someone who lives there? It's a bit of a hassle to be honest, I know Capital One is pretty good (as you can't open Schwab), but I have no clue how complicated it is to open a bank account there if you are Canadian.
