NYE - Surfers Paradise

Unable to take time off for NYE to go overseas, and trying to save for a Eurotrip; some girlfriends and I are planning to spend NYE in our country.

We were thinking of driving to Surfers Paradise (From Sydney) to spend 4-5 days there.

Has anyone else spent NYE in Surfers or gold coast? Is the Gold Coast the same as Surfer's Paradise (Apologies if I'm suppose to know this already lol)?

Is there anythign to do on NYE? I'm imagining beach parties and fireworks. We want to relax, but also celebrate the NYE as well.

We're a group of girls, mid twenties.

If Surfers' isnt a good destination, can someone recommended another place?

Surfers Paradise is the most popular spot on the Gold Coast. Start looking for accommodation now or you'll be sleeping on the beach.

The Gold Coast is a continuous strip, incorporating a few cities including Surfers Paradise. It should be perfect for you and your friends.

I live in Surfers Paradise and on your average summer Saturday night you could liken it to NYE. Surfers is the main city of the Gold Coast set along the beach side. Typically main clubs such as Shooters, Vanity, Melbas, Sincity and so on usually charge around $30 for guaranteed entry on the night as it gets very busy. Apart from the clubs a street party forms where the city meets the beach at the main surfers paradise beach entry point. Hundreds on people party there and on the beach. Trust me it is all types of awesomeness going from a club to the street party to partying on the beach til sunrise then a 6am new years day dip in the ocean, literally hundreds strip down to their underwear and run in! Also a 5 minute drive from surfers is Broadbeach which I think is a bit more upper class when considering clubs but still an awesome atmosphere. Anywhere down the golden strip on nye will be well worth it! Book accommodation right now if you haven't already!

Having lived there a long time before moving to Sydney, I'd say your enjoyment depends on what kind of girls you are. NYE in Surfers and Broadbeach can get a little hectic with throngs of skimpily dressed girls, most of whom will be younger than you. Not much different to the Cross, in a way. As long as you can have a sense of humour about it you'll be fine.

With fireworks happening throughout the evening, lots of people take a picnic blanket to Burleigh Headland for pre-NYE views, atmosphere, bbq and drinks (police tend to turn a blind eye to alcohol at Burleigh as long as you are discreet). Catch the earlier fireworks from here, then jump on the bus up the highway to Surfers. The bars/clubs are a bit trashy - embrace it or try for Elsewhere in Cavill Mall or Swingin' Safari (a little off the main strip).

Thanks all for the suggestions and tips!

It's NYE so we're just going to embrace the atmosphere and be tourists in our own country. Planning to try out all the clubs/ bars whether they're trashy or not. lol should be interesting :)

So Gold Coast it is - and yes, i am looking up accom right now :)

Any must eat/visit/things to do while we are there?

We're going Wet & Wild (i've done the others already)
I want to check out Broadbeach as Kiteonie mentioned.
