8 nights in Thailand - suggestions please!Travelling to Thailand in January for 8 nights with a friend. We are hoping to stay in one place, preferably on a beach. We'd like to have a balance of markets and experiencing the hustle/bustle and relaxing on the beach with cocktails/massages etc, with a few day trips here and there.
We were thinking Phuket, but reading some of the posts here not too sure? We are 30+ so a bit beyond the drinking/night clubbing scene.
Any suggestions about a good place to visit please? Many thanks in advance.

2Are you actually going to swim at a beach, maybe do some diving - or just look at it and simply relax at your hotel or nearby pubs and beer bars?

You give up on having any fun at too early an age! What are you going to do 10 or 15 years from now - old age facility? I am much older than you and I still like to have a drink or two at beer bars in the evening. I don't do nightclubs - just not my thing to needlessly pay more for a common drink!
It is only 8 nights. What do you intend to do during the day hours? In Thailand you can sign up for tours through local travel agencies on short notice.
I see nothing wrong with Pattaya, cheaper hotels than Bangkok and Phuket. Easier to get to than Phuket. But the beach is no good for actual swimming! Okay for restaurants, sunbathing, malls, nightlife that you can ignore. But if you want to get wet at a beach go elsewhere! Many hotels have pools anyway!
Also check out Hua Hin. Okay for couples who are more settled. Cheaper than Phuket and you can get ther eby bus or train.

Al is right. Try Pattaya, or for a better beach, Jomptien.
Don't know what you imagine Thai markets are, but doubt that the reality is what you want.
